Foster Update March 28:
Archer (Archie) is a very well-behaved boy in the home. He has never had an accident in the house, does not root through the garbage, or counter surf. He will only get up on the couch when he is invited. That being said, he does like to be invited onto the couch for a good snuggle, and is happy to spend hours in the evening that way. He does very well at dinner parties, never begging from or bothering the guests, but does enjoy having all of the people around. His hobbies, in order, are: 1) eating, 2) retrieving, 3) going for a ride (he hops right in my boyfriend's old pickup truck as soon as the door is opened, whether he is invited there or not).
Archie is definitely prey-driven, and so needs to be in a house without kitties or other small animals. He can be reactive when he sees other dogs when out for a walk, although that can be managed by taking him to the other side of the street, and soothing him with a calm tone of voice. He is a bit of a barker/whiner when he gets excited, but we're working on that. He is doing much better with stairs now, and follows me up to bed at night with his favorite ball in his mouth and sleeps next to me at the side of the bed.
This boy is a sweetheart and will do best in a home where he's the only dog and will be your biggest fan. No dog parks or off leash with other dogs for him but he loves, loves people, so the more the merrier. He has transformed from being an extremely skinny/tail-between-the legs kind of guy having to fend for himself on the streets to a well-fed, confident and happy doggie with a bit of a spring in his step. He acts younger than his age, and now that he's had his dental work done and bad teeth removed, he seems to be in excellent health. All he needs now is a forever family to dote on him and make up for the hard life on the streets he previously had and their love will be returned tenfold.
