Sweet Marco was an indoor/outdoor dog that had not been anywhere outside of his home or yard his entire life - never socialized to the outside world.

FROM HIS FOSTER: At about 2-1/2 years old Marco still has lots of puppy energy to expend. He is making progress and not jumping up, mouthing or scratching as much as he used to when he is stressed, but still can act out in those ways when he is overly stimulated, afraid or anxious.

Marco is a shy and sensitive dog and with help and patience from his humans he should outgrow a lot of that. He has already come so far from how he was when he first came to us – he's really not the same dog. It's important his forever family are not only patient but give him daily consistency and structure to continue to help Marco learn to settle at those times he does become stressed.

He will fit in best with someone who has a big yard to interact with him and where he can run off his energy or that has the time for long walks and or hikes and will exercise him daily. He likes hiking the trails and will follow going down steep grades/stairs instead of pulling you along. Marco enjoys and needs the exercise. He has no barking issues and doesn't dig in the yard or jump the fence.

We recommend no small children; at 62 lbs and with his sometimes quick puppyish movements, he can inadvertently bump and knock little ones over. At our home, no "rambunctious" play at all, so only chew toys and balls with no rough play interaction encouragement, to further help him learn to be calm.

Marco is house trained and goes in and out of the doggie door on his own. He is a trustworthy dog in the house, doesn't chew on inappropriate things. nor is he a counter surfer. We do have a crate that he uses for the short periods that he can't have the run of the house. He walks very well on the leash but still has some times of pulling in his excitement wanting to greet another dog. We have been working on that and he is getting better all the time, maybe 1 in 6 dogs we meet gets that greeting . He approaches most people and dogs with no negative drama but is usually more cautious with men. Marco rides nicely in the car.

If you think you might be that special family for Marco or have further questions please let your Home Visit representative know.
